Somewhere Margaret Sanger is smiling upon Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi“Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.” – Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi

And Stephanopolous even gave her an out by asking ‘No apologies’ and she said ‘No apologies’.

Nancy is beginning to sound a lot like Margaret Sanger (the founder of the agency that is now Planned Parenthood). Margaret Sanger was a racist who believed that birth control should be provided to African Americans to stop them from procreating. Margaret Sanger is also quoted as saying:

“. . .we prefer the policy of immediate sterilizarion, of making sure that parenthood is ‘ absolutely prohibited ‘ to the feeble-minded.”

and

“Colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated.”

In reading Ms. Pelosi’s statement, it appears that she’s pretty close to Ms. Sanger in her beliefs stating that ‘family planning services reduce cost’.

Aside from Ms. Pelosi claiming to be Catholic and publicly making statements against the teachings of the Catholic Church, she couldn’t be more wrong when it comes to the idea that an increase in contraception reduces the number of unwanted pregnancies. Data available at the Centre for Disease Control website has shown that the rate of unwanted pregnancies are highest in areas where birth control is readily available and often available at no cost. The problem is – its not being used. So, the idea of making contraception more widely available isn’t the answer.

Ms. Pelosi also states here:

“Some argue that this rule is about abortion, but it is not. The fact is that no U.S. funds can or have been used to perform or promote abortion services since 1973. The World Health Organization estimates that more than 500,000 women in developing countries die each year from pregnancy-related complications. Todays action by President Obama will help save lives and empower the poorest women and families to improve their quality of life and their future.

This statement makes no sense… if no US funds had been used to promote abortion services since 1973 – then why would we have had the need for the Mexico City Act? The Executive Order that President Obama signed overturned the Act that placed restrictions on promoting abortion for those who receive funds. If there hadn’t been money spent, then there would have been no need for the Mexico City Act nor its overturning. Once again Ms. Pelosi seems confused.

Consider that Ms. Pelosi is the Speaker of the House for the Democratic Party which welcomes the ‘Freedom of Choice Act’ in which abortions would be available at any point during a pregnancy and refers to the choice to have children as a ‘cost’. She is the Speaker of the House under the first African American President who, through FOCA, would encourage abortion people of African American descent.

On the other hand we have the often vilified and ‘restrictive’ Catholic Church which is – in spite of what Ms. Pelosi and Vice President Biden mistakenly convey – vehemently grounded in its pro-life beliefs. An offshoot of the Catholic Church is a beautiful organization called ‘Priests For Life’ . It would surprise many to learn that one of the fantastic members of that organization is the niece of Martin Luther King Jr, Alveda King. She serves as the Pastoral Associate, and Director, African American Outreach and has dedicated her life to the pro-life movement.

When you consider that Ms. Pelosi would we contracept ourselves into either a state of economic prosperity (or oblivion? Russia currently has declining population growth due to the high number of abortions – 2 abortions for every pregnancy) and that President Obama wants to ensure that every woman has the right to have a partial birth abortion performed on their baby as a ‘fundamental right’, and that on the other hand you have a Church that believes that every life is sacred and a gift from God and organizations like ‘Priests for Life’ who are working hard to save the lives of the unborn – who do you really think is looking out for your best interest?

As a footnote… Tom Brokaw made a comment on the day of the inauguration:

“Having been in the South in the ’60s and Los Angeles, in Watts and northern urban areas, when we were evolving as a country, I’m thinking of all the bigots and rednecks and people I met along the way. I’m saying to them, “Take this.” You know? ”

Does this apply to Nancy Pelosi?
